A floor is one of the most integral parts of a house. It takes up most of the space and is the first thing that observant guests notice when they walk in. The floor of a building is its biggest feature apart from the four walls of the structure. To keep the good looks of your wood flooring intact in Blue Mountains, timber floor sanding & polishing is a good route to take. Over the years the wear and tear floors are subjected to is inevitable especially timber floors. With heavy foot traffic and dragging of furniture or other equipment on them, they become laden with scratches and instead of looking elegant and pretty they give a very rough look despite being cleaned. Even the toughest of hardwood floors need some maintenance and upkeep to look their best. Whether it is your business or residential property, an unkempt floor does not give a very good impression on newcomers.

To restore your timber floors to their original beautiful appearance you need to have them sanded and then polished. The process of sanding is a very simple and plain one where you rub a wood floor with an abrasive sanding paper to strip off the topmost layers. When done repeatedly, fresh and clean wood emerges from beneath. Usually people hire service providers because albeit simple, the process of sanding can become hefty and tiring. Professionals have the required equipment, experience and tools which enables them to do the job efficiently and correctly.

The sanding is done in a process and requires to be done multiple times completely the top layers without causing any damage to the floor. It is advised that you hire a professional to do this as it is a rather lengthy and arduous process. After sanding you need to thoroughly vacuum the floor and make sure that there isn’t any leftover debris or specks of wood because the next step requires a completely clean and smooth floor. The floor needs to be wiped with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits. After that if you want to stain your floor (change the colour) then you need to prepare for that by applying a pre-stain conditioner to the floor and then work your way from the farthest corner of the room to the exit so you do not corner yourself.

After this the floor again needs to be sanded but only lightly and then vacuumed. Your sanding project now needs to be wrapped up with the application of polyurethane. Polyurethane is a chemical that is used in most household items. It is applied on your freshly sanded floor with a stain applicator. It is important that you open the doors and windows of your house for this process to get some ventilation since polyurethane’s fumes are very strong. You need to apply the first coat, let it dry according to the instructions given by the manufacturer and then apply a second coat. You need the second coat to dry for a few days or until the floor is completely dry. You can now move your furniture in but it is advisable that you use felt pads so as to avoid the scratching of your wood floor again.

In Blue Mountains, timber floor sanding & polishing is gaining immense popularity as it really transforms the look of an old wood floor.
