The power of professional presence

It is a common belief that a set of skills and talent is required for professional advancement. Though this is true, but another reality is professional presentation of a person also plays an important role in professional advancement. Research has proven that while sounding intelligent contributes to presenting a powerful image, factors like appearance, proper etiquette's and social graces matter a lot.
Whether you have just recently graduated and are looking to land your first job or you are a professional looking to train your younger colleagues, here are a few basic etiquette's you should consider:

  • Always take pride in your personal appearance. Groom your appearance make yourself look attentive and presentable.
  • If your job requires a uniform, then make sure that your uniform is clean and there are no stains on it. Get your uniform washed and pressed every day. If the uniform is not pressed or ripped from one side, it would not make a lasting impression. 
 

  • Your footwear should always be polished. Don’t wear pumps, joggers and sandals to work. Those shoes are for wearing in a casual environment. Work shoes include heels and proper lace tying shoes.
  • Proper hygiene is paramount to presenting a good professional image. It shows that you don’t lack social manners. Always start your day by taking a bath and brushing your teeth. You never want to have a bad breath or an odor that is off putting and is offensive for others.
  • Your hair should always be shampooed and conditioned. If you are a female, tie your hair back so it doesn’t fall on your face. If you are a male, your hair shouldn’t be long temples and mane. Your hair should be properly trimmed and it should be above standard collar line.
These etiquette's create a lasting impression in professional world. To maintain your professional presentation, make sure that you take care of these things.
