When dealing with Child Head Lice Control, it is best to assess the situation first. If the Child has very long hair, the first step should be a haircut as this will make your job much easier and also be less painful with all the combing that is going to take place. Be sure to dispose of the short hair in a tightly closed trash bag so that no lice can escape and infest another person.
Next, you will need a jar of
mayonnaise. Work the mayonnaise throughout the hair being sure to coat all of
the surfaces. You may want to cover this with a shower cap as it will be there
for a while. Leave the mayonnaise on for at least an hour or as long as the
person can stand it. This oily mixture will coat the bodies of the lice causing
them to be unable to breathe. After they suffocate you will still need to
remove them and their nits with a comb.
You can decide if you want to wash
out the mayonnaise first before you start combing or if you would rather wash
it out first. You will need a fine tooth comb. This will be your most important
tool against the nits and eradicating the little pests. head lice removal combs
often have an additional wider tooth comb and an attached magnifying glass.
This will be invaluable as nits are very hard to see. There are dyes that can
also be sprayed on the hair to make the nits more visible.
The most common
places for the nits or eggs to be laid is near the neck or behind the ears so
be sure to check well there. They are very stubborn to remove because the
mother has used a gluey substance to fasten them to the hair shaft. You will need to re-check the hair
every couple of days to ensure that no more eggs have hatched as part of your
plan for head lice removal. Also, you must wash all bedding, stuffed animals,
dress up clothes or other surfaces in very hot water. Boil any hairbrushes or
combs that may have been used as well.
